We have a lot to accomplish at Hamakua Jodo Mission in the near future. We are currently in negotiations with Kamehameha Schools to purchase the land that our temple and cemetery is located on.
There are also a lot of mandatory maintenance projects on the horizon that have to do with the upkeep of our historic temple. Most pressing is the mandatory decommissioning of our cesspools on the property and install an independent waste water system. This will cost a lot of money to do, and will exhaust our finances. Other projects in the future include termite treatment, structural reinforcement, a proper permanent gate, professional tree trimming, cemetery repairs, erosion mitigation and updating our insurance policies.
We have been looking into organizing fundraising events, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of ideas have been shelved temporarily due to social distancing guidelines along with health and safety concerns. We are trying to think “outside of the box” to come up with alternative fundraising ideas in the meantime, but we need the help of others to help us sustain our temple through these unprecedented times.
HJM humbly asks for your consideration in making a charitable donation to us to help offset our upcoming expenses and achieve our goals. If you are interested in helping us, please download and return the form below along with your donation made payable to Hamakua Jodo Mission to:
